Discover a unique island shaped by nature, culture, experiences and local flavours. Hailuoto is easily reached via a free car ferry, operating year-round from early morning until late at night. A fixed road connection to the island will open in autumn 2026. Ferry services will continue to operate throughout the bridge construction period.
Getting to Hailuoto by bus – easy and convenient
From the mainland, Hailuoto is easily accessible by local bus.
A single adult ticket costs only €2.60 when paying with contactless payment or via the OSL app. Buses have priority access to the ferry via the designated priority lane. Hailuoto can be reached from the centre of Oulu on bus routes 59 and 59S. Timetables are conveniently available in the OSL app or at reittiopas.osl.fi. Local taxis provide transport on the island
Taksi Hailuoto provides transport both within the island and, when needed, beyond the island as well. The taxi service is fully accessible, and taxi fares are eligible for Kela reimbursement. Several minivans are available for group transport. Taksi Hailuoto follows the pricing of Pohjanmaan Taksi Oy.
