By bus to Hailuoto

It is also easy to get to Hailuoto by bus.

Just take line 59 from the Oulu bus station, take a seat and enjoy the view point towards the beautifully frozen island, where even in winter you can rest your mind.

OSL tickets are valid on the Hailuoto line

You can travel on Hailuoto line 59 with OSL tickets. You can worry-free pay the public transport ticket on the bus with a card, contactless payment or use OSL's application, which you can download to your phone.

On the OSL zone map, Hailuoto is located in zone D. For example, for a trip from the center of Oulu to Hailuoto, you need a City A-D ticket.

Hailuoto's public transport is organized by the Northern Ostrobothnia ELY center and will be operated by Oulaisten Liikenne in 2024.

Find out the timetables on OSL's website https://www.osl.fi/en/timetables-and-routes/ and catch the bus that suits you.

The trip takes 1.5 hours

During the trip, you can put your mind to rest and enjoy the journey to a carefree island.

In 1.5 hours, you will see the most beautiful scenery while driving to the ferry beach, and from the ferry you will have the opportunity to see far out to sea, explore and observe ship traffic, a solid ice cover or, for example, the movement of migratory birds in the spring weather.

You can get off the bus during the ferry ride to the deck to experience how the sea air bites and refreshes you.

Choose a suitable end stop on the island

When arriving in Hailuoto, you can get off the bus at any bus stop that is closest to your destination. If, for example, you are staying at Arctic Lighthouse Hotel, you can comfortably sit in the bus until the end of the journey. The bus turns to the final stop in Marjaniemi, from where you can "throw a stone" go to Arctic Lighthouse Hotel's reception, or for example to Ranta-Sumpu cottages.

Remember the different schedules for Saturday, Sunday and holidays

Remember that on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, buses generally go to the island and the mainland once a day. Don't get stuck on the island, remember to plan your trip carefully. The exact schedules for each day can be found on OSL's website https://www.osl.fi/en/timetables-and-routes/.
