Cross-country trips with Icelandic horses in Hailuodo

Do you want to go hiking with horses? We take one to two horses with saddlebags. Horses can carry food and, for example, a tired walker. On the trip, you can go, for example, along the island's hiking route or choose any other direction. The guide is included in the price of the trip.

Field trips

You can choose a cross-country trip to your liking:

• The one-and-a-half-hour cross-country riding can be done either as a walking terrain or in different gaits, in which case the trip includes short stretches of tölt, trot and gallop. The total duration of the cross-country trip is about two hours and it includes the care and saddling of the horses and guidance at the beginning. The tour is suitable for a maximum of three riders.

• The two-hour cross-country riding is suitable for more experienced riders. On this trip, you can progress in all types of steps. The total duration of the cross-country trip is about three hours and includes horse care and saddling as well as instruction.

Long trips or Day trips

On long trips we go to the seaside, the weather permitting, part of the journey is covered with sand banks. The height of the water affects how far we can ride the shore. There are dirt roads running through the island, along which riding is nice and easy. The routes vary depending on which beach we head to.

For these trips, you already need riding skills so that you can control the horse even in unexpected situations and in all gaits. Longer trips are made in groups of 2-3 people and these should be booked well in advance. It is good to reserve 5–6 hours for the trip, including a lunch break of about an hour. These trips are not suitable for the timid, you need a bit of an adventurous spirit!

Versatile and pleasant activity with horses

• Guided hiking tour : we walk the horses while enjoying the picturesque scenery of Hailuoto. The route can be planned together with the hikers. The duration of the trip is about 3 hours.

• A leisurely walking tour : On this tour, we go where the muzzle leads us. The excursion can be accompanied by an activity suitable for the season, such as dipping the horses in water, watching migratory birds, picking mushrooms, picking berries, geocaching or even deer hunting. We eat snacks during the trip when we feel like it. We can even take a nap in the moss forest. Even a rider who has ridden less can enjoy riding with the help of a rider. This is my absolute favorite! The duration of the excursion is about 3 hours.

• Harness riding : experience riding safely with a harness for the first time. The time includes horse riding, about 1/2 hour.

• Morning stable : in the morning stable, the horses and other animals are cared for and fed, the stable is cleaned and the pens are dried. Tasks vary according to the seasons. Duration about 2 hours.

• Morning at the horse farm : seasonal horse farm work. In the beginning, we take care of the morning stable and the care of the animals. From there, we continue to other works, which are relevant at any time. The activity is perfect for people who want to get to know the everyday life of a horse farm. Duration 3 h.
